Carotid Endarterectomy

This procedure clears blockages in the carotid artery and restores the blood flow to the brain. An incision is made along the affected carotid and the surgeon removes the blockage. This surgery will result in a brief stay in the IMCU as the patient’s airway needs to be monitored for the first 24 hours. The average hospital stay following a carotid endarterectomy is three days, depending on the success of the procedure and how each patient recovers.
